Iran and Spain

So many beautiful items to show!

The Kindergartners continued their adventures this week by traveling to Iran and Spain.  Ryan's mom taught us about the Farsi language and even sang us the Farsi "alphabet song."  She brought in a wonderful rug for the kids to sit on, and they enjoyed the books, pictures, tea set, and dolls.  The kids loved being able to touch and hold all of the beautiful items and eating the delicious treats!  On Friday, the K-kids traveled to Spain.  They learned Spanish words, looked at pictures of a large city and old, old house where Natalia and her family visit every year.  They loved looking at the money and the huge flag, too!  The K-kids wrote in their travel journals about their visits and had their passports stamped at the end.  I can't wait to share their travel adventures with you at conferences in February.

In literacy corners, the Kindergartners learned more about the Chinese New Year by coloring and reading a book about the holiday.  They made four letter WOW words using stamps and stickers.  The K-kids also explored books and used the reading phones to read in the reading rocket.

Kindergartners learned more about measurement and how to "mark-off" when measuring (ensuring that you are moving the ruler from one point to another accurately).  They explored calculators more and learned how to skip count with the caculators.  They also explored different representations of numbers such as for six you could say "3+3" or "10-4" or even "three sets of legs on three birds."  The kids had a lot of fun thinking outside of the box to represent simple numbers!  Using the 100s chart, the K-kids found patterns within the chart.  They looked for the 5s and 10s in the columns and through individual discovery realized there are many patterns represented on the chart!
