Our class gift to the auction!  The Kindergarten Kids were so proud of the mirror and were so thankful to Anne Coulter and Marty Hecht for the vision and the tiling work!  It is sure to be a talked about piece at the big event on May 6th!

The Kindergarten Kids had a great week!  They finished up learning about gardens and vegetables by learning what part of the plant a vegetable came from.  They were surprised to learn that lettuce is a leaf, carrots are roots, peas are the seeds, and celery is the stalk or stem of a plant.  They also learned about bulbs (onions) and that broccoli is really like eating a bunch of little flowers.

They also loved listening to and learning new songs this week!  Natalia's mother came to our classroom on Tuesday to teach us three songs - one of the songs was a song all about Roycemore Kindergarten! We had a lot of fun learning the words and are hoping to make a video to show off our singing skills.

The kids completed two fine art projects this week!  They learned about Leonardo Da Vinci and used his Mona Lisa as an inspiration.  I loved the pictures of women with long hair, the black dress, the folded hands in front, and the mysterious smile.  The kids also loved creating pictures of people - while lying on their backs under the tables!!  They learned how Michelangelo painted the Sistine Chapel while on his back.  The kids recreated this experience by drawing pictures of their families and friends while lying under the tables.  It was hard work and their arms were tired, but the drawings were great!

We also briefly discussed the royal wedding and used the historic event as a writing prompt.  The kids thought about kings, queens, princes, and princesses and what these royal people do ALL day long!  They drew pictures and wrote about their ideas.  The VoiceThread is posted on the glog...it is pretty cute!

Math this week was full of hands-on activities and fun!  They practiced adding while playing a dice game and learned how to write a number sentence.  They also practiced telling time to the hour and half hour and identifying and counting coins.

During Writer's Workshop, the K-Kids started writing their own ABC books.  They had to draw at least two objects for each letter and label the drawings.  Many kids chose to write more than two objects - until they got to "x." :)

We are looking forward to next week when our "baby" ladybugs will arrive, and we begin an unit on ladybugs and other spring insects!
