No Bones About It - the Kindergartners are learning a lot!

The Kindergarten kids learned so much about the skeleton, the digestive system, and about skin this week! They put on their science hats and observed a real skull and skeleton and learned skeleton facts.  They wrote their facts and put together "Mr. Bones" to show their new knowledge of how our skeletons are put together.  They learned about the digestive system and the path food takes after we take a bite.  They created an "inside out" doll that showed the digestive system and organs.  They also learned why we have skin, that receptors help us relay information to our brains, and why people have finger prints.  Using an ink pad, they made a fingerprint and inspected it with a magnifying glass.  They learned there are no two fingerprints that are the same!

During math time, the K-kids practiced measuring with unifix cubes and recording their results using a number and a picture.  They also practiced "pocket problems" which are story problems with a focus on remembering the numbers used in the problem and drawing a picture to represent the problem.  It was great practice for all of the kids!  They also ended the week by having a choice of the three math games we have learned: number concentration, number high and low, and roll a dice.  They loved having the choices and were all so engaged with their number games!


During Writer's Workshop we continued focusing our thoughts and ideas and writing a three page story. They will all have a chance to share their stories in the share chair throughout this week and next!

We had a wonderful time at the Botanic Gardens learning more about seeds.  A big thank you to all of the parent volunteers - without the extra hands the field trip would not have been as successful!  Check back on Monday to see all of the pictures!
