Bumpy Pumpkins with Pumpkin Slime

It was a very "pumpkin-y" week in Kindergarten!  We investigated the outside and inside of a pumpkin and used adjectives to describe the "orange, hard, bumpy" outside and the "gooey, slimy, smelly" inside of a pumpkin.  We also predicted whether a pumpkin would float or sink in tub of water.  The K-kids made their guesses, drew a picture, and completed the experiment.  They were excited to find out that the large pumpkin actually floats in the water!  We also estimated how many seeds were inside the pumpkin and then counted all 380 seeds by putting the seeds into groups of 10!



During Literacy Corners, the Kindergarten Kids sorted money and did crayon rubbings of their money groups.  They also used phonics stamps to spell words and played a word ending game.  The Kindergartners continued to work in their WOW word folders and Explode the Code phonics books.  I was also able to meet with each Kindergartener every day for guided reading groups to help them learn reading strategies and practice blending sounds and reading WOW words.  It has been very exciting to watch the progress of every child over the last 7 weeks of school!
