Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall...

The Kindergarten kids practiced rhyming this week while learning about nursery rhymes.  They learned why a word rhymes and practiced reading and writing words using the rhyming patterns.

Through the nursery rhymes unit, the K-kids were introduced to Mother Goose and her famous rhymes.  They took a poll of whether they thought Mother Goose was really a goose or a person and drew pictures of her as either a goose or a person.  The K-kids read Jack Be Nimble and took turns jumping over “the candlestick.”  They also listened to Humpty Dumpty and did a math experiment about why Humpty Dumpty fell over (he is an oval and ovals have a hard time balancing upright).  The K-kids talked about things that frightened them and then listened to Little Miss Muffet.  They took their pictures next to a large (plastic) spider and wrote about it for a fun completed activity in the hallway!

BINGO boards

To reinforce the WOW words learned this week, the K-kids made their own BINGO boards.  They wrote all of the WOW words on the board and then used their own boards to play BINGO.  It was a great way to practice writing and reading the words of the week!

In math this week the K-kids learned about tens and ones and used a ten frame to represent numbers (5+2=7 and 4+3=7, etc.).  They also reviewed measurement by measuring items that were taller than themselves and shorter than themselves.  We will soon begin measuring items with rulers and comparing lengths.
